That’s one of the deepest and most beautiful questions one can ask—what is at the core of reality? Different traditions, sciences, and philosophies offer different lenses, but they often begin to converge when you look closely.
From a spiritual perspective:
At the core of reality is consciousness—pure, unchanging awareness. It’s not just something we have, but something we are. Many mystical traditions describe this as divine presence, Source, God, or the Absolute—an infinite, timeless field of being that underlies everything. In this view, all forms, all experiences, and even time itself emerge from and return to this singular field of awareness.
As Hawkins puts it, the highest levels of consciousness reveal the illusory nature of separation. Reality, at its core, is non-dual—meaning there is no real division between subject and object, self and other, matter and spirit. All is one, interconnected, and flowing from the same essence.
From a yogic or energy-based perspective:
Reality is made of energy and vibration. The universe, including us, is a dynamic dance of energy patterns vibrating at different frequencies. Lower vibrations correspond to denser experiences—fear, anger, survival—while higher vibrations align with love, peace, and unity. At the deepest level, this energy is intelligent and alive—it’s life force, or prana, chi, kundalini, depending on the tradition.
From a scientific angle:
Modern physics hints at a similar truth. Quantum theory shows that, beneath the surface of particles and matter, everything is a field of probability and potential, responding to observation. Some interpretations even suggest that consciousness may be fundamental, not something produced by the brain, but something that gives rise to the universe itself.
So, what’s at the core?
At the deepest level, you could say the core of reality is:
- Consciousness itself
- Unconditional love
- Oneness
- Stillness and infinite potential
- An intelligent field of being that gives rise to all experience
It’s something that can’t be fully explained—but it can be known, felt, and realized. Often, awakening is the process of peeling away the illusions to directly experience that truth.
