8 Inner Blockages That Restrict Us From Feeling Good

As we go through our lives, it can be easy to get caught up in our busy schedules, responsibilities, and fast paced jobs that we forget how important it is to focus on how we feel.

When is the right time to slow down and tap into another side of us — one that is rooted in peace, calmness and a inner joy for life, rather than stress and anxiety?

It can be hard to change how we feel, unless we know what is blocking us from feeling better. Here are 8 common blockages that restrict us from feeling good —

  1. Shame
Shame attacks our sense of self-worth, making us feel inherently flawed or unworthy. It causes us to hide parts of ourselves, leading to disconnection and self-loathing, which erode inner peace.
  2. Guilt
Guilt focuses on our actions rather than our identity, but still weighs us down by fostering regret and self-punishment. It traps us in the past and prevents emotional clarity or self-forgiveness.
  3. Apathy
Apathy is emotional numbness or indifference, often stemming from despair. It cuts off motivation and connection to life, leaving us disengaged and empty, unable to feel peace or joy.
  4. Grief
Grief is the pain of loss. While it’s natural, when prolonged or unprocessed, it can keep us anchored in sorrow and prevent acceptance, making peace feel distant or impossible.
  5. Fear
Fear clouds the present with worries about the future or perceived threats. It contracts our energy, fuels anxiety, and prevents trust — both in life and ourselves — which are essential for inner peace.
  6. Desire/Lust
Excessive desire or lust keeps us in a state of craving, always seeking something external for fulfillment. This constant longing creates dissatisfaction and restlessness, blocking contentment.
  7. Anger
Anger arises from perceived injustice or unmet expectations. It creates inner turbulence, reactive behaviors, and resistance — all of which disrupt calm and inner harmony.
  8. Pride
Pride builds a fragile identity based on ego or superiority. It separates us from others, fosters defensiveness, and makes humility and openness (key ingredients of peace) harder to access.

Looking through the above list can help one identify what they are feeling on a daily basis and then to work on ‘unblocking it’, so that it can clear from your field of consciousness, so that you can experience better. Working on these blockages to inner peace can transform one’s life. The inner experience progressively becomes more calm, peaceful and free of fear and inner suffering.
